INFOGRAPHIC on why tiger populations are falling

Image
I hope that this infographic nicely summarises the reasons in 2022 for the continual decline in tiger populations and why this precious, iconic wild cat remains vulnerable. They say that the Bengal tiger population is roughly stable but overall, there is downward pressure on tiger numbers when taking together all the species of tiger.  The IUCN (the experts) say that the population is decreasing and in a demonstration of their inefficiencies they have a typo in the population section in saying that the tiger population is: 2,608-3905,3140. Go figure that 😉. The minimum is 2,608 I guess and the maximum - well you guess. Probably 3,905 or 3,140. I think the latter is more accurate, but humankind does not really know the number of tigers left on the planet because we don't care enough. I won't add many words at the moment as the infographic tells the story succinctly, I believe. It is quite a complicated problem, but the underlying reason is simple, starkly simple. Humans are kil...

Rare Malayan tiger shot dead at zoo after biting cleaner's hand

Image
A rare Malay tiger was shot dead at a zoo in Florida after a cleaner employed by a contracting cleaning company put his arm through the fencing. He was in an unauthorised area. It's reported that his behaviour was in breach of contract and reckless. Sadly, it is the tiger who paid with his life despite behaving instinctively. Eko, the Malayan tiger shot dead by a sheriff's deputy because he would not release the hand of a cleaner. The photograph comes from the zoo's Facebook page. The cleaning company was responsible for cleaning restrooms and the gift shop. They were not responsible for cleaning animal enclosures. Enquiries indicate that the man was either petting or feeding the animal. Reports indicate that the tiger grabbed the man's arm after he traversed an initial barrier and put his arm through the fencing. The tiger concerned was a four-year-old Malayan tiger whose name was Eko. A sheriff's deputy arrived. He kicked the fence to try and startle the tiger int...

Tigers are native to what country?

Image
Nov. 2014: The tiger is native to many countries where it no longer exists so we can't simply point to countries where it is found and say it is native solely to those countries. The tiger's range has been hugely reduced in recent times. It once extended across Asia from eastern Turkey and the Caspian Sea and going eastward south of the Tibetan plateau to Manchuria and the Sea of Okhotsk. It is extinct in Turkey, Northern Iran, Afghanistan and the Indus Valley of Pakistan. The tiger was once common over the foothills of the Himalaya through Nepal, Sikkim (state of India), Bhutan, Assam (state of India) and Myanmar (Burma). These are some of the countries and states of India where the tiger is native.  The great Sundarbans tiger reserve straddles India and Bangladesh. The tiger was once widely distributed in Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia. These are also countries to which the tiger was and is native. The tiger was abundant in Korea but now possibl...

Why Is the Tiger Endangered?

This is 1,000,000 miles from a conventional answer.  You can see some conventional answers to the question in the title on this page . The reason why the tiger is endangered is because when you find out what people are searching for on the Internet with respect to the tiger they don't search for information about the tiger but prefer information about tiger emojis, Tiger Woods the golfer, Tiger Woods foundation or that kind of thing.  If you pick out the top 100 words and phrases that people search for with respect to the tiger 90% of them or more have nothing whatsoever to do with tiger itself.  Is all to do with products and sport and as mentioned emoticons etc.. This clearly indicates to me that people are not actually interested in preserving the tiger for future generations.  There are far too wrapped up in their own worlds, in the moment.  They're much more concerned about getting hold of a Japanese emoji for their webpage for their e-mail.  Peopl...

Tiger Bone Glue That You Eat!

Image
Tiger bone glue “is very strong in enhancing your masculinity". It is another one of those rather bizarre products that you can buy in Asia created out of tiger bone. There are other products created from the body parts of tigers, a highly endangered species , in part because some people in Asia like to eat bits of it. This is where you get your tiger bone glue comes from! Tiger bone glue is particularly odd to me because you would have thought that you would stick things together with it. No, you eat it. A lot of tiger products are geared up to improve masculinity. Perhaps the most notable is the tiger penis . A whole one is worth about $6000 (the last time I checked).  I have no idea how this is eaten. It is probably ground up and put into something or other and then consumed. The market in tiger bone products is very lucrative . One 10th of a kilogram (about one fifth of a pound) of tiger bone glue costs about $140. Because the market is so lucrative is open to corrupti...
